Mike Shultis

BIOGRAPHY

Mike Shultis is an American painter whose work both reflects and challenges our contemporary moment through a satirical lens. His recent series “Edits” reimagines classical painting compositions and themes into new documentations of the American zeitgeist. Using mixed media assemblage, Shultis transforms a plethora of materials into representational paintings that distort the history of each object into a new visual dialogue and broader context. Stuffed animals, plastic plants, fake flowers, wigs, clothing, rocks, astroturf, antiques, taxidermy, toys, and so much more find themselves embedded into each work. This accumulation of stuff and subsequent chaos echoes how Shultis sees the world and offers the viewer a darker glimpse into the known.
