Bridging environmental science and fine arts within primary, secondary, and university curricula presents a unique challenge for educators. To support local schools in delivering interdisciplinary learning, Mangroves Foundation has developed the Educational Toolkit: Art, Biodiversity & Planetary Health—an open-access pedagogical framework available to teachers across Barcelona and internationally.

Designed by our educational team in alignment with local curriculum goals and global biodiversity frameworks, the toolkit enables teachers to seamlessly blend ecological literacy with creative expression both in the classroom and during visits to our physical space.

Structure of the Educational Journey

The toolkit provides a structured, 3-part educational experience tailored for youth groups of up to 40 participants per session:

  • Part 1: Classroom Preparation & Scientific Intro: Educators receive pre-visit materials covering fundamental ecological concepts, including marine protection, forest conservation, and climate resilience.
  • Part 2: Guided Gallery Exploration: During visits to Carrer del Bruc 18, students engage in interactive, 120-minute guided tours where they analyze contemporary artworks through a scientific lens.
  • Part 3: Hands-On Studio Workshop: Students participate in creative workshops where they apply ecological concepts by producing original art using sustainable practices and recycled mediums.

Empathetic Learning for Future Stewards

By providing free, downloadable educational guides, Mangroves Foundation fulfills its public utility mandate—equipping educators with high-quality resources that foster critical thinking, environmental responsibility, and creative problem-solving among young people.

Barcelona schools can access the complete guide directly through our website under the Our Work & Education portal, or book an interactive, full-session school visit with our educational team today.
